Judith Petersen

Since 1997 Judy has served as the Director of the Kentucky Waterways Alliance, a statewide citizen’s organization in Kentucky. She is responsible for leading and directing all programs, staff and management for the organization. Judy has been an active participant in southeast and national clean water policy forums. Judy leads KWA water quality efforts in Kentucky as well as along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.

From 2001- 2006 she served on the Board of Directors for the newly formed Southeast Watershed Forum non-profit organization. Southeast Watershed Forum Board Secretary 2005-2006.

Since 2006 she has served on the Center for Water Resource Studies Advisory Board at Western KY University.

She has served as the Chair of the Water Quality Standards Workgroup for the Mississippi River Basin Collaborative (the Collaborative is comprised of 13 principal groups including nine state-wide groups along the Mississippi River) since 2005.

Judy holds a B.S in Aerospace Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.

Awards and Honors include: 1990 Earth Day Award from the Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission, 1996 Admiral of the Commonwealth from the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet, 1996 Kentucky Colonel from Governor Brereton Jones, 2005 Allegheny Valley School District, Alumni Hall of Fame, 2007 University of Kentucky, Robert A. Lauderdale Award for Outstanding Contributions in Water Quality, 2007 National River Hero (River Network), 2008 Public Service Earth Day Award from the Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission.
