COL Schwartz graduated from Lynchburg College (VA) in 1984 earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a commission as a Regular Army Armor Officer. He also holds a Masters Degree from Clemson University and The United States Army War College. His military schooling includes Airborne School, the Armor Officers Basic, and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Services Staff School, and the United States Army War College.
COL Schwartz is married to the former Nancy Williamson of Armonk, New York. They were married in 1985 and have two children, Allie (18) and Andrew (15). Allie will be a freshman at Georgetown College and Andrew will be a freshman at Fort Knox High School.
Over 24 years of service, the Schwartz’ have been stationed in Kentucky, Germany, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Kansas, Colorado, Mississippi, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania.
Col Schwartz’ operational assignments include two combat tours. He served as tank Company Commander during Operation Desert Storm and Tank Battalion Commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His military awards include the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor and two Bronze Star Medals for Meritorious Service.
The Schwartz family comes to Fort Knox from Carlisle Barracks Pennsylvania.
